Things You'll Need:
- Cotton Shoe laces
- Oil lamp wick
- Plastic Bag
- Straws
- Large planter pot
- Peat moss
- Self watering container
-
Step 1
Be sure that you double pot your plants in a container of moist peat moss. Take one larger empty planter pot, on the bottom of this pot put in peat moss that has been soaked. Place your potted plant into the larger pot with the soaked peat moss. As the roots require moisture it will be absorbed throughout the holes at the bottom of the smaller pot into the plant.
-
Step 2
Purchase a self watering container that will keep a supply of water for a limited period. These can be purchased from almost any garden center.
-
Step 3
Place a clear plastic bag around your plant. Be sure that the plastic bag is large enough to cover the pot and the plant. Put four straws at an angle around the rim of the pot. Water the plant, then seal the bag with a piece of adhesive tape. The water is recycled into the soil after it evaporates from the leaves.
-
Step 4
Make a watering wick for individual plants or plants in clay pots. To make a wick use any water absorbent material such as cotton shoelaces or oil lamp wicks. Push one end firmly into the root ball and the other into a container of water; a simple glass of water will do just fine.

Step 5
Hire someone you trust to come in and water your plants at least once a week
