Improving your ability to recall dreams is something that takes patience and time. With a couple of simple tools and focus, the ability to recall dreams comes within reach. The trick is to relax and set your mind free of everyday distractions and worries. Once the conscious mind is at ease, it is easier for the subconscious to play a more pivotal role in breaking down the barriers set by the mundane. Check out these different ways to improve dream recall.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Amethyst
  • Lavender incense
  • Incense holder
  • Notebook
  • Pen or pencil
  1. Step 1

Before preparing for bed, sit for a few minutes and relax. Clear your mind of the stresses and distractions from the day. This can be extremely difficult at times, but letting go for a while works wonders and with time, it does get easier. Take a few deep breaths to ground and center yourself. Visualize yourself inhaling the positive energies and exhaling the stressful, negative energies.

  2. Step 2

Amethyst is a stone that has been used for centuries as a tool for dream recall. Make sure the the amethyst has been cleansed. Hold the stone in your power hand, and focus on your intent. Ask whichever power you feel comfortable working with, to guide your dreams and to help you to recall your dreams upon waking.

  3. Step 3

Light the lavender incense. Make sure that you have a fireproof container in which the incense can burn. The scent of lavender is useful in that it helps to relax, aids with inducing sleep and enhances dreams.

  4. Step 4

Place the amethyst somewhere close to where you sleep--like the head of the bed, or on a nightstand. Or if you wish, slip the stone into your pillowcase. Just be sure that the stone is placed near your head.

  5. Step 5

Keep a notebook and pen (or pencil) handy. Upon waking, you may find it helpful to write down key words, or images, from your dreams. In the beginning, such notes help to fill in the gaps when you are not sure of the dream in its entirety.

  6. Step 6

In the morning, give thanks for the guidance received.

Tips & Warnings
  • To become adept at dream recall takes time, practice, determination and focus.
  • You may become frustrated at first, or lose focus, this is natural. The mind is not used to working on this kind of level.
  • Have patience, and work through the frustration.
  • We have become programed by the "immediate gratification" culture in which we live, and it can be difficult and frustrating when we try to break free.
  • Continue to focus and the dreams will come.
  • Other incense that works well is sandalwood, copal, cinnamon and rose
  • Do not attempt this if under the influence of a controlled substance. Your mind needs to be clear and focused in order to accomplish that which you set out to do.
