The fuel filter mounting plate assists in the connection of the fuel filter to the fuel pump. Assembling one is relatively easy if you know what to do. This article will guide you through the simple assembly and installation of the fuel filter mounting plate. This article assumes that you are changing the fuel filter at the same time as assembling the mounting plate. You don't have to do both at the same time. If you just want to assemble a mounting plate without changing the fuel filter, then this article is more than helpful for that situation. Before beginning, make sure you have the right type of products. Fuel filters and their mounting plates differ based on the year, make and model of the vehicle. Check with your owner's manual and the local auto parts store to ensure the purchase of the right parts. If you are even the least bit worried, have a trained mechanic to stall the part for you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fuel Filter Mounting Plate
  • Screw driver
  1. Step 1

Remove the fuel filter, if you desire. Some like to install the mounting plate while it is still attached to the fuel pump, but it is much easier to reach and assemble if the fuel filter has been removed first. Check with a professional or the owner's manual on how to remove the fuel filter. You can always install the mounting plate without removing the fuel filter. This is entirely up to you. But, if you are changing the fuel filter anyway and already have it out, it is a good suggestion to go ahead and attach the mounting plate.

  2. Step 2

Snap the mounting plate in place around the fuel filter, no matter if the fuel filter is removed or not. There is a flow arrow on the side of the fuel filter. You want to make sure that it is in the right direction. If there is an upwards flow, then the flow arrow should be facing up and so on. If it is not installed in the right direction it will plug up the filter and won't run correctly.

  3. Step 3

Attach the hose clamp. The clamp goes around the mounting plate to hold it in place.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the screw around the clamp with a screw driver. Make sure that it is properly secured around the mounting plate.

  5. Step 5

    Reinstall the fuel filter.

Tips & Warnings
  • Not all vehicles have a hose clamp to hold the mounting plate. Check with your owner's manual to see what your vehicle uses.
