The low-to-high hand exercise for Tai-Chi is a great way to improve posture and balance. When doing the exercise, keep your back straight and remember to breathe.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stand comfortably with feet shoulder-width apart and arms at sides, palms facing backward. Do not lock your knees.

  2. Step 2

Bend your knees and slowly squat as you also bring your hands together palm to palm in a prayer-like formation in front of you.

  3. Step 3

Continue the motion and bring your hands (still palm to palm) up in front of you, stretching your arms and following your hands with your head. Extend your hands over your head.

  4. Step 4

Slowly straighten your legs as you bring your arms up. Your whole body should be moving in sync.

  5. Step 5

Separate your hands after you’ve stretched them as far over your head as you can. Slowly bring your arms outward, away from your body in a large circular motion.

  6. Step 6

Bend your knees again as you bring your arms down and around, meeting your hands palm to palm in front of you as you did before.

  7. Step 7

Repeat this cycle 10 times. In a short time, you’ll see a difference in your posture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try to keep your feet flat on the floor throughout the exercise.
  • This exercise is great for improving posture and balance.
  • The whole exercise should be done in one continuous and fluid motion. Do not lose your form or stop in between steps.
