How to Dry Fruit For Potpourri

Potpourri is a wonderful to way to spice up the air in your home. You can save money and have fun creating your own fruity potpourri by following the simple directions in this guide. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Sliced apple pieces
  • Lemon peel
  • Orange peel
  • Peach slices
  • Pear slices
  • Resealable bags
  • Cookie sheet
  • Salt
  • Measuring spoons
  • Any sweet smelling spices
  • Knife

Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

      Cut orange and lemon peelings into small pieces and place each piece onto the cookie sheet.

      Cut up the apple, peaches and pear slices into small pieces, adding them onto the cookie sheet.

      Arrange the fruit slices and peelings so that they are evenly placed on the cookie sheet, without overlapping each other.

    Drying the Fruit

      Set oven to 250 degrees and place cookie sheet with fruit pieces and peelings into the oven.

      Bake fruit approximately 2 (two) hours, or until they are dried.

      Check on fruit mixture every 30 (thirty) minutes, making sure the fruit does not cook, that it only dries. (If you can hear the fruit sizzling, try turning the oven temperature down until you can no longer hear the fruit sizzle).

    Creating the Potpourri

      Place fruit mixture into resealable bag.

      Add 1 (one) Tablespoon of salt, and one teaspoon of the sweet smelling spices you have chosen.

      Close the bag and shake well.

      Let the bag sit overnight.

      Dispense potpourri into your favorite container and enjoy the fruity scent.
