Instructions

    • 1

Pick your plant. Lavender comes in a few varieties: English, Spanish and French. French is less aromatic, but is best for growing indoors. Read your tags carefully when choosing your plant from a local grower and you'll recognize the French variety by it's serrated leaves.

    • 2

Let it dry out between waterings. Your French Lavender likes a hardy drink, but then ignore it a bit until the soil is dry to the touch.

    • 3

Give it a good start with the right soil. Add some lime and sand to a good standard potting mix. Place it in a roomy pot as French Lavender doesn't like to be crowded.

    • 4

Provide good airflow. Lavender likes a little breeze, and fresh air so be sure to give it a well ventilated home indoors.

    • 5

Place the pot in a sunny location. Lavender likes a lot of bright daylight, so be sure to give it a premium window seat in your home.

    • 6

Give it a little vacation in late summer by putting it in a sunny, sheltered location for a few weeks to stimulate new growth and "air it out."

Tips & Warnings

  • If your house is very dry in winter time, place a pan with gravel in it under your Lavender plant. Pour some water over the gravel and keep wet. This will help maintain some humidity around your plant.

  • Don't over-water. Lavender is prone to root rot, so keep it on the dry side.
