Once you've begun a blog, it isn't much more than a personal diary unless you promote it. Readers need to be able to find your blog on the fast world wide web. So, you need to promote it in as many different ways as you can to increase traffic.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Write away. You should have at least 7 to 10 posts before trying to promote your blog. Most blog directories will not list your blog with them unless there are at least 7 posts. Also, it becomes easier to promote a blog that is at least 30 days old.

  2. Step 2

List your site in blog directories. There are several blog directories that you can list your blog in. For many of these, you must sign up for an account and they require that you put a link back to their site. This is easy to do, simply create an account and use the code they give you to place on your blog. In both Wordpress and Blogger blogs, you simply add an "html" widget and put the code into that.

  3. Step 3

List your blog at StumbleUpon.com and Technorati.com.

  4. Step 4

Add Digg to your posts so that readers can vote on some of your most popular articles. You can get the script for this at Digg.com

  5. Step 5

Find other blogs of similar content that are very popular and become a regular reader and commenter. People from that blog will inevitably drift over to your site to see what you're about. Make sure when you post your comment that you leave the URL for your blog at the end. Do not comment on other blogs just to promote your site. It will most likely be deleted by the blog owner.
