How to Do the Reverse Magic Arm Trick

The world of illusion can be very fun and rewarding. There are many world-renowned magicians and many have started out doing card tricks. At any given time someone may have a deck of ordinary playing cards and you can show off your skill and trickery. This article will show you how to do the reverse arm magic trick with cards.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Subject
  • Deck of Cards
  • Practice

    Performing the Trick

  1. Step 1

    Show the cards to the subject, let them look at them to prove they are real.

  2. Step 2

    Shuffle the cards loosely.

  3. Step 3

    Fan out the cards in front of the spectator.

  4. Step 4

    Have the subject pick a card and show it to the crowd as well as look at it themselves.

  5. Step 5

    Have the subject replace the card anywhere they want.

  6. Step 6

    Fan the deck out and find the card which was chosen by it being reversed in the deck.

  7. Making the Trick Work

  8. Step 1

    Fan out the cards to your spectator.

  9. Step 2

    Have the subject show the card to the audience or to "study" the card while you slip the bottom card toward your body and you flip it so that the back is facing down.

  10. Step 3

    Have subject replace the card.

  11. Step 4

    Hold the deck out toward the subject, turning your wrist so that the bottom card is now the top making the card that is replaced become reversed.

  12. Step 5

    Pull the deck close to you to "search" for the replaced card and in doing so turn the deck right side up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always add a bit of flare to your trick by giving the deck a "shake" or "tapping" them.
  • Add humor to your act and other distraction techniques.
  • Practice often.
  • Go slow--rushing can make a trick fail and you will look bad.
  • Do not use card tricks as a way to cheat at cards.
