How to Pack a Dog Travel Bag

Gather your dogs presecriptions, vet records, shot records and medications. Depending on the length of your trip, you may put a single dose of medications into a zipper bag.

  2. Step 2

Put a food dish and water dish into a bag. For space saving, try a pop-up travel dish. For added home comfort, bring your dog's every day dishes.

  3. Step 3

Measure enough food for the length of your trip and pour it into a zipper bag.

  4. Step 4

Fill a bottle with water to put in the bag. Washed out large Gatorade bottles are perfect.

  5. Step 5

Pack waste bags for cleaning up after your dog at rest areas.

  6. Step 6

Put a pet first aid kit in an easily accessible spot in your travel bag.

  7. Step 7

Pack an extra leash in your travel bag just in case.

  8. Step 8

Pack a zipper bag of some treats and favorite toy(s).

  9. Step 9

Put everything in the bag and make sure it's stowed in an easy to reach place in your vehicle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your dog has his ID tag and rabies tag affixed to his collar.
  • Tote bag organizers can be a great way to arrange Fido's things in an easy to find and secure way inside a tote bag.
  • If your dog tends to seek out his food or treats in the car, make sure not to store the tote in a place he can reach it.
