Gilbert Blythe was the love of Anne Shirley's life. He is a prominent character in the book, "Anne of Green Gables." Lucy Maud Montgomery created a romantic hero that young girls would compare their boyfriends against for generations. Here is how you can put together your own Gilbert costume.
Wash, dry and style your hair conservatively. Gilbert plays by the rules, and he is studying very hard. He eventually becomes a doctor, but you will probably be playing the character as he is most well-known and well-loved. He's a lovable student with a schoolboy crush on Miss Anne Shirley.

Put on a classic, button-down shirt. Sport a school-boy-best that is perfectly ironed and in place.
3
Put on long pants. If a young boy is dressing in this costume, dress him in knee pants with knee socks. Chances are, you are old enough for long pants!
4
Wear muted shoes that could easily pass for a schoolboy of that time period (the late 1800's).
5
Bring along a broken slate with you for added humor. All true fans of "Anne of Green Gables" laugh at the scene where Anne breaks a slate over Gilbert's head because he called her "carrots." This will be instantly recognizable to anybody who has seen the movie or read the books. You also may want to bring along your schoolbooks. Gilbert is a great student.
Tips & Warnings
Wear your Gilbert costume while your girlfriend dresses like Anne for maximum fun and costume recognition.
Never make fun of yourself while wearing the Gilbert costume. He is a proud student who takes himself seriously.
