How to Build a Barbecue Smoker

The smell of smoldering wood, the signature pink ring on the inside of the meat that proves it is cooked to perfection, there is nothing like smoked meat.Below you will find instructions on how to make a smoker out of simple household items that you will be able to enjoy over and over again. This is a great little gadget to put together when you're in a pinch.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1- 10 or 12 inch terra cotta clay pot
  • 1- 10 or 12 inch terra cotta saucer (same size as pot)
  • 3- Bricks (to place pot on)
  • 1- Hot plate or electric burner (can be found in the camping isle)
  • Wood chips (soaked for 30 minutes)
  • 1- disposable pie tin
  • 1- 10 or 12 inch round grill grate
  • Extension cord (optional)
  1. Step 1

    Place terra cotta pot on wooden blocks.

  2. Step 2

    Put hot plate or electric burner in pot and run cord through hole in the bottom.

  3. Step 3

    Fill disposable pie tin with soaked wood chips.

  4. Step 4

    Place grate on top of pie tin.

  5. Step 5

    Put your meat on the grate and cover with clay saucer, which will now become your lid.

  6. Step 6

    Plug in your hot plate or electric burner and smoke meat according to recipe's specifications.

Tips & Warnings
  • You might want to invest in a barbeque thermometer to gauge the heat inside the smoker.
  • Pot will be extremely hot! Always use oven gloves before touching.
