Create a Summer Learning Workbook
-
1
Set up a conference with your child's teacher to discuss which skills need to be improved upon over the summer or how to prepare for the next year.
-
2
Ask your child's teacher if she has any extra worksheets that you could use.
-
-
3
Make your own worksheets by copying problems or activities from your child's homework over the past few months to review those skills. Try to make your own versions of those problems or activities.
-
4
Get more worksheets by purchasing workbooks at your local stores. Or, go to your favorite search engine and do a search for "free worksheets". If you have specific kinds of worksheets in mind, include those criteria in your search. Bookmark and print your favorites.
-
5
Divide all of your pages either by subject area, daily work goals, or weekly goals.
-
6
Put each set into its own folder or small binder.
-
7
Set up your routine for completing the work.

Tips & Warnings
Try to keep activities challenging, but not overwhelming. She will get bored if it's too easy, but frustrated if it is too hard.
Don't force the work on your child. If he is too unhappy about it, he isn't going to learn anything. Set up an incentive system, if necessary. Or have him help choose the activities to make it more interesting.
