How to Explore Redwood National and State Parks
Redwood National and State Parks reside along the North Coast of California and Oregon. The North Coast starts from about Ukiah, California inland and Fort Bragg, California on the coast, and extends to Josephine County, Oregon. This is an ancient coastal redwood ecosystem. See banana slugs, gray whales, Douglas fir, black bears, and sea anemones, all living within the Redwood forest.

Discover Howland Hill Road and Stout Grove. Take a ten mile scenic drive through old-growth redwoods, one half mile walk through a river bottom grove of tremendous trees. Explore Enderts Beach and Crescent Beach Overlook. See Pacific Ocean views from the overlook. Look for a gray whale. Walk a mile to Enderts Beach, and explore the tidal pools.

Drive to Klamath River Overlook and look for whales. Hike a quarter mile down a steep trail to the lower overlook. Get off the beaten path and onto Coastal Drive. Drive this eight mile rough road as it winds past Pacific Ocean views and descends into redwoods at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.

Travel Newton B.Drury Scenic Parkway. It's a ten mile scenic drive through ancient redwoods. See Roosevelt elk grazing in the prairie. Follow Davison Road to Gold Bluffs Beach. See Fern Canyon with its 30-foot walls dripping wet and full of ferns.

Biking in Redwood National and State Parks can be challenging awe inspiring as you bike through the redwood forest or along the coastline. Bike Little Bald Hills Trail on Howland Hill Road; it is 5 miles of steep trail open during the summer. Try Coastal Trail, Last Chance section, located at the end of Enderts Beach Road or Ossagon Trail Loop. Davison Trail starts at Elk Meadow Day Use Area or at the south end of Elk Prairie campground for an easy two and three quarter miles. Try Lost Man Creek Trail, located 3 miles north of Orick or six and a half miles up Bald Hills Road off Hwy 101. It's eleven moderate miles.
