1
Grow your own. Purchase inexpensive onion sets in the spring and simply push them into the soil. You don't need a lot of room in your garden to grow onions (try a flower box!) and if you stagger planting them, you can have fresh onions for months.

2
Weigh your onions. Onions are often sold by the bag, or per onion, rather than by the pound. By weighing several onions or bags of onions to find the largest, you can get more for your money!

3
Buy onions frozen. If onions are not in season, it is often more economical to buy them in your grocer's frozen foods section. An added benefit to this option is that they are already peeled, sliced and diced.

4
Freeze them yourself. If you find an amazing deal on onions you can freeze them by blanching them first and have onions to last quite a while.
-
5
Store onions in your cellar, or a cool dry place. This will keep them from going bad too quickly, and throwing them away definitely does not save you any money!
