If possible, go to bed an hour earlier than you usually do. The extra time can make a big difference when it comes to how you feel in the morning. Gauge how you feel with your extra hour. Your body may tell you that you need to allow yourself even more sleep than that.

Set an alarm clock and don’t hit the snooze button. Get up when the clock goes off the first time. Hitting snooze and lying there longer only makes it harder to get up and it probably makes you cranky, because it gives you more time to think about how badly you want to sleep longer. But you can’t, so get up and get moving.

Get your things ready the night before. When you wake up and are sleepy, you don’t want to have a million things on your mind that you have to do. Have your clothes ready and ironed if necessary. If you pack a lunch, fix it the night before. If you have others to help get ready in the morning, make sure their things are ready as well. This gives you less to worry about doing and can make the morning process a lot smoother.

Set a routine to follow in the morning, so that it’s easier to get up. Exercise, go walking, pray, or even just treat yourself to a nice cup of coffee to get the energy moving.
