Use this craft to teach your child the history of the famous Faberge eggs. The original Faberge eggs were decorated with precious metals such as gold, silver, and jewels. Keep this in mind when getting ready to decorate your egg. You also want to encourage your child to use their imagination and become creative to make their own version of the Faberge egg.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pin
  • Raw egg
  • Small bowl
  • Paints
  • Paint brush
  • Sequins, beads, stick on stars
  • Fake gems
  • Glue
Step1
Push a pin or sewing needle through both the top and bottom of a raw egg.
Step2
Carefully blow the contents of the egg in to the small bowl. Just hold the egg steady over the bowl and blow from one end. Be careful not to crack the egg.
Step3
Paint the egg using your paintbrush and being careful not to break the egg. Allow the paint to dry.
Step4
Decorate the egg with the gems, beads, stick-ons and sequins. Use your glue for everything but the stick-ons. Just put a dab of glue over any spot you plan to add a bead or jewel. Then carefully press the decoration in place.
Step5
Set the egg out to dry. Once the egg is dry can display it on a tiny pillow you can make. .Cut two small squares of cloth out, about 4 inches by 4 inches. Place the squares with the right side of the cloth facing each other and sew 3 sides shut. Turn the material right side out and stuff the pillow with cotton balls, making sure a few less cotton balls go in the middle. Then sew up the last side. Another display idea for more than one egg is to decorate an egg carton to use as a storage display case.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have patience with this project. Rushing may cause the egg to break.
  • You cannot use a hard boiled egg for this project because after a few days the egg will begin to stink.
