Floral fragrances and fruit haves a long history of use in magic and religious ceremonies. In many ancient cultures, flowers and fruits were used to as offering to gods. In Egypt, certain flowers and fruits where entombed with the dead to assist with transport to the afterlife. It is possible to capture the essences of flowers and fruits for everyday use.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fruits
  • Flowers
  • Water
  • Dark glass bottles
  • Brandy or vodka
  • Vinegar
  1. Step 1

    Check the forecast for a sunny day and gather ingredients. You will need fruits, flowers, water, dark glass bottles, brandy or vodka, and vinegar.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the flowers or fruit. For floral essences, try roses, lavender or lilacs for relaxation. For fruit essences try apple, pear and banana for calming effects. Choose citrus fruits for energizing effects.

  3. Step 3

    Infuse your favorite fruit or floral blooms. Place slices of fruit or floral blooms by placing them in cold water and leaving them to stand for several hours in direct sunlight. Use a whole sliced fruit or at least half a dozen flower buds.

  4. Step 4

    Strain the water. After straining the water add the preservative. For fruit essences that you wish to imbibe add brandy or vodka and for floral essences that are not for consumption, use vinegar. You will need to add 1/4 cup of water and 2/3 cup of the chosen preservative.

  5. Step 5

    Pour the essence into a dark glass bottle. Place the bottles in a cool and dark place for one week before use. The essence will keep for several months. For fruit essences, refrigerate rather than storing in a cool dark place.
