Making your own lotions is an easy way to save money and have control over what goes on your skin. Organic lotions offer a great way to improve your skin's hydration using chemical-free, natural items. If you have sensitive skin, or just like to live in a more natural, organic way, making your own lotion is an easy way to take control. Here are a few recipes to get you started.You'll find all the ingredients you need at natural food stores or co-ops.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. lecithin
  • 6-8 drops of geranium oil
  • 2-4 drops myrrh oil
  • 400 IU vitamin E oil (1-2 open capsules)
  • 1 cup dried chamomile
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 teaspoons wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/8 tsp. Borax powder
  • 1/2 cup almond oil
  • 1 tsp. coconut oil
  • 1 tsp. grated beeswax
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 3-4 drops orange essential oil

    A Lotion for Winter

    Gather your ingredients.1/2 cup distilled water1/2 cup olive oil1 tbsp. lecithin6-8 drops of geranium oil2-4 drops myrrh oil400 IU vitamin E oil (1-2 open capsules)

  2. Step 2

    Place in an immersion blender (used mostly for mixing drinks normally) and blend.

  3. Step 3

    Whip until lotion is creamy texture. Add more water if necessary to thin out mixture.

  4. Step 4

    Store in a cool place and shake well before each use.

  5. Overall Skin Softener

  6. Step 1

    Gather your ingredients: One cup dried chamomile; four tablespoons honey; one cup milk and eight teaspoons wheat germ.

  7. Step 2

    Place chamomile in a tea ball and steep in the milk for a few hours. Remove tea ball and discard chamomile.

    Add honey and wheat germ and blend in an immersion blender until smooth.

  9. Step 4

    Place in a sealed container and refrigerate unused portions for up to a week.

  10. Almond Lotion for Extremely Dry Skin

  11. Step 1

    Gather your ingredients: 1/2 cup water; 1/8 teaspoon Borax powder; 1/2 cup almond oil; one teaspoon coconut oil; one teaspoon grated beeswax; two tablespoons honey and three or four drops orange essential oil.

  12. Step 2

    Mix water and Borax together and blend well.

  13. Step 3

    In a separate Pyrex or glass bowl, mix together the almond oil, coconut oil, honey, and beeswax.

  14. Step 4

    Place the glass dish in a pot with a few inches of water, and heat until the beeswax is melted.

  15. Step 5

    Microwave the Borax mixture until almost boiling, about one minute.

  16. Step 6

    Put beeswax mixture in a mixer. Add hot Borax mixture and whip together. Add the orange essential oil or another scent if you wish.

  17. Step 7

    Pour smooth mixture into a seal-able bottle or container. It may seem a bit thin now, but it will thicken as it cools.

  18. Step 8

    Use and enjoy!

  • Have a favorite scent? Feel free to add or substitute any essential oil in your lotions to personalize even more.
