Things You’ll Need:

  • Time
Step1
Do you have the capability of being a self-starter? Imagine for a second you’re a Zippo lighter. What if there was a way for the lighter to automatically light just by talking to it. I’m sure smokers around the world would enjoy that! Business owners are notorious for being extreme self-starters. This means taking care of business on your own terms instead of being told what to do. Once you take the initiative and begin the process of starting a business, this first step can literally keep you going. Instead of someone else pushing you along, you’re the one who “make it happen.” Never wait until you see progress before giving it your all and hunkering down to seriously working. You may never see that progress working at all!
Step2
Contemplate how you view other people. Everyone has feelings, fears, and concerns about everything in life. A business owner must be able to convey a sense of compassion when around others. No one wants a boss who rant and rave all day. There’s not a person who’ll do business with someone who has a nasty disposition or attitude about life. A business owner must love the company of people in order to succeed. They must be able to get along with different personalities other people have. Although it’s good to have many friends, it’s better to be eager in finding new ones. There shouldn’t be a moment where the company of others begins to irritate you. Love to love others and it will carry you throughout your business career.
Step3
Determine if you have the capabilities of becoming a great leader. George Washington, our first president, was a great leader in the army first. His leadership paved the way for many victories on bloody battlefields. Consequently, his internal leadership carried over when he became president of the United States. Business owners must have the ability to motivate others when work needs to be done. This doesn’t mean you have to rule with an iron fist. However, you must be strong in your convictions. There should never be a moment where someone else tells you what to do before you inform others. That job is for supervisors and not business owners. Be sure to bring out the leader in you to soar higher in your dreams of running your own business.
Step4
Take responsibility for your actions. Let's face it, no one wants to make mistakes. However, no one wants to hear someone place blame on others. It’s not only childish behavior but it can lead to the ruin of your business. Make sure you’re able to take charge of situations with calm, precise decisions. After you’ve made decisions, stick with them until the situation is resolved. Business owners who let others below them have full responsibilities are assuring themselves defeat. You want to make sure everything is done correctly the first time around by checking the progress. If you don’t know how to do something, hire someone who do but have them report to you before making final decisions.
Step5
How are you at organizing? There are many people who have a hard time even organizing their closets. For some people, it’s a chore just to know where an item should be kept. However, business owners have a plan before venturing off to unknown territories (you do remember about the importance of a business plan right?) These owners work hard to get things lined up whenever a task is at hand. This includes making schedules, following up on assignments, and sticking to the business goals. If you find yourself becoming frustrated and quit, you’ll never be able to finish anything. Don’t let problems stop you from finishing your mission.
