Slate tile can be installed in your home indoors, or outdoors. This natural tile adds charm and durability, all in one! Known as the "safe tile" because it is usually slip resistant, kitchen's and bathroom's are well suited for slate. Because it is porous in nature, slate tile must be sealed! To keep it looking beautiful, it must also be cleaned regularly. Here are some instructions on how to clean your slate tile floor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Slate tile flooring
  • Bucket
  • Water
  • Mops (two clean cotton rope)
  • Dish washing Soap
  1. Step 1

Remove dirt or debris from the area before cleaning. Using a broom is a good choice, but a vacuum is even better. Be sure to vacuum where the tile meets the appliances and the crevices too.

  2. Step 2

Next pour a cap full of dish washing soap into a bucket of hot water.

  3. Step 3

With a clean cotton rope mop, wash your slate.

  4. Step 4

Using a second clean , dry mop, go over your tile once more to remove excess water.

  5. Step 5

Allow your tile to air dry naturally.

Tips & Warnings
  • Regular dish washing soap should be all you really need to clean your slate tile.
  • Refrain from using excess water on your tile. Less is more!
  • Do not use harsh cleaner's on your slate tile. These have the tendency to strip the sealer. Once natural slate is exposed to the elements it is extremely porous. Anything spilled on exposed tile and grout will be immediately absorbed and very difficult to remove!
