1
Make your lasso by looping and knotting your rope. Stand in front of the animal you would like to lasso. Coil the rope in your left hand but leave at least six feet of loose rope for throwing.

2
Hold the other end of the rope, a foot under the noose, with your right hand. Begin to swing the lasso noose and lift it over your head. Relax your wrists when circling the rope.

3
Release the rope toward your target when the rope is behind you so that it shoots forward. Step forward with the swing and bring your throwing arm down to shoulder level, palm down.

4
Let the rope encircle the cattle's throat and then jerk back on the rope. Congratulations you have just learned how to lasso a cattle.

I don't know much about roping cattle but I do know that there are left-handed throwers and many REAL cowboys who rope when an animal is in front of you or beside. Most of the time I see a cowhand rope an animal that is in front of them with them chasing the animal, not when the animal is facing you. So stand BEHIND the animal, not in front.
