How to Make Platain Porridge

Porridge can be a delicious start to any day. Throughout the world, various cultures enjoy their own brand of this breakfast dish - it actually has many different names in Scotland alone. Meanwhile, the use of porridge in African cooking extended all the way to Jamaica, where it was given local flavor with the incorporation of sweet, sweet plantains. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 2 green plantains
  • 4 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • Herbs and flavoring (nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, etc.)

Instructions

      Chop the peeled plantains into small pieces, and mash them finely into 1/2 cup of water. Continue mashing until there are as few lumps as possible - a blender might help.

      Bring the remaining four cups of water to a boil.

      Slowly, add the plantain mash to the water, stirring vigorously for several minutes.

      Simmer for about 15-20 minutes, removing any large lumps.

      Stir in the sugar and salt. Flavor to taste, and serve hot.
