How to Boil Frozen Broccoli

We all know that we need to get more vegetables like broccoli into our diet. But if you are like many people having fresh broccoli in their house is not going to work. Many times the fresh broccoli will go bad before you can get a chance to use it. Frozen broccoli is a great alternative to fresh broccoli and easy to make. Follow these simple steps to boil up some frozen broccoli tonight. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 bag frozen broccoli
  • 1 pot
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large bowl filled with ice and water
  • 1 slotted spoon
  • 1 colander

Instructions

  1. Let's Cook Some Frozen Broccoli

    • 1

      In a large pot place 4 cups of hot water and the 2 tsp of salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil. The salt will bring out the flavor in the frozen broccoli.

      Place the 2 tbsp of butter into the boiling water and the contents of the bag of frozen broccoli. Let the frozen broccoli boil for 5 minutes or until tender. Stir the broccoli occassionally.

      Remove the tender broccoli from the boiling water with the slotted spoon. Place the broccoli directly in the bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. This will keep the broccoli looking fresh and green.

      Remove the broccoli from the ice water after 1 minute. Place into the colander to drain. When the broccoli has drained, serve and enjoy your broccoli.

Tips & Warnings

  • This technique can be used to boil many types of frozen vegetables.

  • Serve the broccoli with cheddar cheese melted over it for an added treat.

  • Do no over stir the frozen broccoli while it is boiling, this will break up the broccoli into small pieces.

  • Keep an eye on the tenderness of the broccoli, it can become over cooked very fast.
