Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 loaf unsliced rich egg bread, such as challah, cut into 1 inch thick slices
  • 3 cups of milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 10 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. margarine
  • Maple Banana Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 6 medium firm bananas
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  1. Step 1

Grease a shallow baking dish. Arrange bread slices, overlapping slightly, in dish. In medium bowl, whisk milk, salt, eggs, and 1/4 cup sugar until well mixed. Slowly pour over bread.

  2. Step 2

Pick bread with fork so it absorbs egg mixture. Spoon any unabsorbed egg mixture over the bread. In a cup, mix cinnamon with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar; sprinkle over bread and dot with margarine. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 min or overnight.

  3. Step 3

Pre heat oven to 325 degrees. Uncover bread pudding and bake 45 minutes, or until knife insterted in center comes out clean.

  4. Maple Banana Sauce

  5. Step 1

In nonstick skillet, melt 2 tablespoons margarine over medium-high heat.

  6. Step 2

Add 6 medium firm bananas that have been thinly sliced. Cook for about 3 minutes or until lightly brown.

  7. Step 3

Add 1 cup maple syrup; boil 2 to 3 minutes, until slightly thickened. Serve warm over bread pudding.
