Step 1
Go to a salon and have them solve the problem. They will either match up your non-gray color with a color of hair dye, or they may persuade you to change all of your hair to a lighter color that will make it easier to blend the gray into. When all of the hair is a light color, gray is much less noticeable. It is also easier to change the color of gray hair to a lighter shade than a darker one.

Step 2
Dye your hair at home. Choose a hair color anywhere where they are sold. This will include drug stores, most grocery stores, general merchandise stores and beauty supply stores. Look for a permanent hair color so that you don't have hair color that leeches from your hair every time the hair gets wet. Match the color to your hair the best you can, or choose a different color that you will change all of your hair to.

Step 3
Mix the dye according to the directions. Put on colorist's gloves, usually included in the package, and apply the hair dye. Most types of dye suggest leaving it on for a longer period of time when you are trying to cover gray hair. Read the directions to find out exactly what that time is.

Step 4
Wash out the hair dye after it has stayed on the hair for the set amount of time. Rinse the dye out in the shower. If the hair dye came with a special conditioner, use it when specified. If not, use some of your own. This will keep your newly-covered gray hair from being too coarse and difficult to manage.
