How to Enjoy Crossroads Village

Located in Flint, Mich., the Crossroads Village/Huckleberry Railroad complex is a great mid-Michigan attraction destination.Nestled on the edge of Mott Lake, Crossroads Village caters to imaginations of all ages ... from the very young to the young at heart.A visit to the park will take you back in time to the "old days" in Genesee County, Mich.Many of the historic buildings situated there have been relocated from other areas of the state. These buildings have been restored to their original condition and accurately depict the life and style of an 1800s Michigan village.

        Take the time to watch one of the many demonstrations centered on 1800s tradition. Observe volunteers in period dress as they teach old-time crafts, such as quilting, basket weaving, candlemaking and crocheting.

        All aboard! Ride the railroad. No visit to Crossroads Village is complete without doing so. This slow-paced, relaxing ride takes passengers all through the village.The train, powered by steam locomotives, is handicap-accessible.

        Other "must-see" points of interest include: the Mill Street Warehouse and Dining Room, the Stanley School, Masters Cider Mill, the Ice House, the Blacksmith Shop, the Carousel and Locy's Dental Rooms.Of course, you will want to visit the gift shop and one of the three eateries, as well.

        Take a ride on the Genesee Belle. This authentic paddlewheel riverboat provides scenic rides on Mott Lake. The 45-minute cruise can be enjoyed from either the climate-controlled lower deck or the open-air upper deck. In addition to the basic cruise, there are also lunch and dinner cruises available for an extra charge.

        A visit to historic Crossroads Village won't be complete without a tour of the Atlas Mill, which is powered by an underwater turbine. The mill actually operated in Atlas Michigan, from 1836-1942. It currently produces flour, which can be purchased on-site.

    • Visit the website and print out a map before your visit. This will eliminate the need to buy one upon your arrival.

    • For added enjoyment, plan your visit around one of the many special events that are sponsored by the village. These can be found listed on the attraction's website.

    • Also consider visiting during the Halloween or Christmas seasons, when Crossroads is decorated to the hilt.
