How to make a Chef Costume From Scrubs

A chef's outfit is a fun and easy Halloween costume to make. You can make it easily from a white scrub shirt and black pants. You don’t even have to wait until Halloween to wear this costume; you can use it for plays and other costume parties as well.

Things You'll Need

• Scrubs
• Large black buttons
• Black marker
• Chef's hat

Instructions

1. Purchase your scrubs. You will need black pants and a white top. If you already have a scrub top of a different color, you can use it, but you really do need the black bottoms. (There is also the option of wearing regular black pants.) You can find these scrubs at http://www.uniformadvantage.com, among several other online or brick-and-mortar scrub stores.

2. 

   Create your Chef 's top. Using a black marker, draw a line that mimics the flap of a double-breasted shirt or jacket, as shown in the photo. Next, sew on eight black buttons in two rows. You can get extra fancy and use custom buttons and strips of colored fabric (as shown in the photo) if you wish.

3. Purchase a disposable chef's hat. HappyChefUniforms.com has them for as little as 50 cents to $4.75 for one that you can use repeatedly. To avoid shipping costs, it might be smart to find a local uniform or costume store to purchase the hat from.

4. Make accessories. You can make a fake knife with white cardboard and black tape. You can also bring a spatula with you to accessorize your costume. You can also design a fake tray of food out of clay and paint if you want another prop to carry around.

5. Variation: You can be a Killer Chef with the addition of a bit of “blood” on your costume and “knife” and a menacing look on your face.
