1. Choose a cage that allows the hamster enough room to exercise. Hamsters get exercise by running around and exploring their surroundings. 2. Think safety first. If you are purchasing a barred cage make sure the bars are close enough together that your hamster cannot squeeze through or become trapped between them. It is also important to make sure that other household pets such as cats cannot get in between the bars and frighten or injure your hamster. In most cases a glass or plastic cage is the best bet.
