At least 2 to 4 people willing to organize block party.
Step1
Get 2 to 4 people together to begin organization of party.
Step2
Determine date and times of party. Ususally early or late summer work best for most.
Step3
Determine activities that will occur for adults and kids. Do you want a bike parade, moonwalk, watermelon eating contest, slip and slides, waterballon toss, pinatas, scavenger hunt?
Step4
Determine costs associated with activities. For example a moonwalk is about $150. Contests are cost of material and prizes.
Step5
Determine food. Have everyone pitch in for hot dogs, burgers and buns or have each family bring a meat to grill. Have each family contibute a side dish or dessert. Each family bring their own drinks.
Step6
Can 3 or 4 neighbors move their grill to street? Will neighbors pitch in and grill? Assign "chefs".
Step7
Determine total costs (activities, prizes, plates, food?) Divide by number of houses on street. If there are families that do not participate, extra money can go toward kids activities or raffled or divided back to those participating.
Step8
Make flyers and distribute. Do this 2 months in advance if possible, so you can rent anything or purchase anything you will need.
Step9
Have someone collect money. Have another purchase items or rent. Have another person call police department requesting to close off street. Also, call fire dept, as sometimes police or fire department will come and let kids play on truck or car.
