As technological devices grow smaller, demand for smaller batteries, such as the AAA grows. There are times when you may need AAA batteries for your mp3 player or other devices, but are in a pinch. You can easily acquire the AAA batteries you need by hacking a nine volt battery.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nine Volt Battery
  • Needle-nosed Pliers
  1. Step 1

Get a new or slightly used nine volt battery. Pry open the case with needle-nosed pliers from where you see the seam.

  2. Step 2

Continue to unwrap the metal case all the way around the nine volt battery. Don’t worry, there’s nothing hazardous inside.

  3. Step 3

Notice there are six AAA batteries inside. If you have a volt meter you can check their charge. One AAA battery should have 1.5 volts when fully charged.

  4. Step 4

Find the little metal connector tabs which you pulled off the top and bottom of the nine volt battery. Peel these off the base they’re attached to with the pliers and bend them in half.

  5. Step 5

Place the metal connectors at the ends of your AAA batteries. They’ll conduct electricity and hold the batteries in place inside of your device.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be aware that a similar hack can be done using a 12 volt battery. Inside a 12 volt battery are eight 1.5 volt button-cell batteries. You can buy one 12 volt battery for less than you can buy one 1.5 volt button-cell battery, so you can save a lot of money.
  • Be aware that there are some brands of nine volt batteries that aren’t constructed with six AAA batteries inside. This battery was hacked using a major brand.
