Some hair appliques are even decorated with rhinestones, which can make them slightly harder to apply but really adds glitz to an outfit.

Hair appliques can be worn in long or short hair and are a fun way to create exciting designs in your hair for formal occasions of just plain dress-up fun. You apply them in a similar way to ironing cloth appliques on clothes. The appliques are often glittery or shiny pictures of birds, butterflies or bows. Hair appliques are simple to apply and will stay in hair until the next shampoo or shower. In this article, we will discuss how to apply hair appliques. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. How to Apply Hair Appliques

    • 1
Use a flat iron with a large, flat heated area for best results.

Heat the flat iron. It is best for the flat iron to be quite hot before you apply the appliques so that you do not have to expose your hair to extended heat and risk scorching it.

    • 2

Brush hair thoroughly. Your mane must be completely smooth and tangle free before you apply these hair decorations.

    • 3

Select a hair applique. If you plan to wear more than one hair applique, then keep it small. If you only want to use one adornment, then you may wish to go a little bigger.

    • 4

Use your pointer and middle fingers to pull a section of hair away from your head. Watch yourself in the mirror during this set. The section should be as wide as the applique and only be taken from the top layer of hair.

    • 5

Lay the applique on top of this section of hair. You will need to hold the hair out from your head with one hand so that the applique will be supported by the hair.

    • 6
Hair appliques come in all shapes, colors and sizes.

Press the applique and hair between the two flat sides of the hot flat iron. Be careful to hold the flat iron still for this step. If you pull it through your hair, the applique will smear and not be as beautiful and clear as it should be. Press for a steady count of 20 or for as long as is indicated in the instructions that accompany the appliques.

    • 7

Release the hair and let it fall smoothly back into place. You will not be able to brush this hair again, so simply place the applique on an area of hair that won't be exposed to constant movement.
