Things You'll Need:
- understanding
-
Step 1
Understanding - A fight starts with misunderstanding. Take a deep breath and put yourself in the shoes of the other party involved. We are taught to be so egocentric - loose that mentality. Stop thinking "me" and start thinking "you". Act as if you are looking out for their best interest.
-
Step 2
Communication - Most fights begin with an verbal confrontation, spawning from a miscommunication. It is important to stay calm and keep your whits. Instead of derogatory comments that lead to more rebuttles and escalated confronttation, create solutions, compromises, keep everyone's best intentions in mind, not only yours. It's very important to ask questions, the more difficult the better. The more you can spin someone's brain the more they think, and are forced to do so, the more opportunity you have to calm them down. Examples- "Why can't we?" "Could we just?" "How does it make you feel when?
-
Step 3
Intimidation - You are in control. Show no fear. It plays into the ..."if a shark smells blood mentality". You are avoiding a confrontation for the good of the opposing party. Not because you are scared. Again, You are looking out for their best interest.
