Instructions

    • 1

Download Foobar2000 from the program’s homepage, and install it using the default options. In order to burn the DRM-encoded files to disc from Foobar2000, you will also need the burning component.

    • 2

Click the link labeled “Optional Components” , from the Foobar2000 homepage. Download the CD Burning Support, which will work only if you have Nero Burning Rom installed. It will come as a ZIP file.

    • 3

Extract the file named “Foo_burninate.dll” from the ZIP file into the component directory of the Foobr2000 program. This will normally be found at “C:\Program Files\Foobar2000\components.” In order to process the files, an additional piece of software, known as a virtual burner, will be needed.

    • 4

Download and install a virtual burner program, such as Noterburner or Phantom Burner. The software will make your computer believe that there is another CD-Writer on your system, and it will also behave as a normal CD-Rom drive, when a disc image is loaded into the program. Both programs are available as trial editions, which offer limited usage, or as full versions.

    • 5

Run Foobar2000. Add the tracks to your play list that you would like to convert. If Foobar2000 cannot play them, you will need to download the appropriate components from the Foobar2000 homepage, an install them in a similar manner to the burning component.

    • 6

Select the files to be converted by left-clicking each file with the mouse, while holding the “Ctrl” key on the keyboard. Then, right-click on the highlighted list of files. From the resulting menu, click “Convert,” then “Write Audio CD.”

    • 7

Select the virtual CD-burner as the target device. You will need to enter a file name for the disc image that will be created, as will as the directory in which it will be stored.

    • 8

Mount the disc image using the virtual burner software. You can now listen to the tracks as if a CD was inserted. In order to convert the tracks into the correct format for your music player, such as MP3 files, you will need to open Foobar2000 again.

    • 9

Select “Open CD” from the file menu, select the virtual drive, and click the “Rip” button in the window that opens. DRM-free tracks will then be created, which can be converted into whatever format you may need for your player.
