Dating is can be stressful for a Christian especially if you are unsure of how to go about it. A Christian should not be looking to television shows or Hollywood stars to teach them how to date, Instead a Christian should be looking to God's word and the principals found within it. A Christian should set proper boundaries and follow them to the letter. That will ensure that they remain pure and pleasing to God until their wedding day.

Things You'll Need:

  • Bible
  1. Step 1

Make sure you know what God's word says about dating. Look for the words sexual purity, adultery and fornication in the Bible and find out what they mean. By researching these topics we can see how God feels about them. God created man and woman to become one sexually, emotionally and spiritually. This kind of connection is only meant to take place between one man and one woman.

  2. Step 2

Make sure that your image stays intact. The Bible does discuss keeping our image pure so that we are careful not to cause any other Christians (fellow brothers and sisters in Christ) to stumble. Being intimate outside of marriage could cause other believers to do the same thing. This should always be in the back of our minds.

  3. Step 3

Create some guidelines that are based on what you have learned from God's word. Some guidelines could include only going on dates in public settings. Having dinner at a restaurant allows you to have a one on one conversation with your date, but gives you the protection of other people. You could also go on group dates that provide accountability for all couples involved. Never be alone or enter a bedroom of any kind. That's just common sense.

  4. Step 4

Do not be unequally yoked. In other words that means make sure your date is a born again Christian. They should be active in a church and serving God is some way. You don't want to date someone who says they are a Christian but only goes to church on Christmas and Easter. Finding a date that has a genuine love for God will benefit you in many ways. You will be on the same page, and your date will be less likely to pressure you in to doing anything you know you shouldn't be doing. They will have your purity and reputation at heart.

  5. Step 5

Find someone at your church who is willing to be your accountability partner. You are less likely to fall to the temptation of sin when you know you must give an account of your actions.

  6. Step 6

Get counseling from your pastor. If you and your date find that after some time you might want to marry in the future, you should get your pastor involved. You will need some counseling to bring up issues neither one of you may have considered.

Tips & Warnings
  • If at any time you feel that this person isn't right for you, you should break it off immediately. The only purpose for dating as a Christian is to find a marriage partner so don't keep a relationship going for no reason.
  • Do not get dating advice from gossip columns or television shows. They will not teach you God's ways or thoughts on the subject.
