How to Get Shape In Bikram Yoga

Yoga is one of the most popular work-outs in the world because of its ease in getting started and its focus on relaxation and going at your own pace. There are several different variations, one of these is Bikram Yoga. Bikram yoga focuses on 26 poses done in a room set to 105 degrees and 40 percent humidity.

Instructions

  1. Locate a Studio

    • 1

Find a studio or facility that offers Bikram yoga classes. Sign up for the class. Find or purchase form fitting but breathable clothing.

    • 2

Drink lots of water before class begins. If you have long hair you'll want to pull it back off your neck since you will be sweating a great deal.

    • 3

Go to class with an open, relaxed mind. Perform the breathing exercises fully and deeply. These breathing techniques will help you further your experience while holding the poses.

    • 4

Hold each pose and work through the exercise while continuing to breathe. Try to go further and push yourself to try the advanced versions of each pose as you practice and get better. Holding these poses will strengthen your body from the inside and give you long, lean muscles while sweating away fat.

    • 5

Continue with classes as often as you can go (preferrably three to four times a week). Practice some of the poses at home so that they will become easier for you when you are in class under the strain of heat and humidity.

Tips & Warnings

  • Drink lots of water before class

  • If you feel light-headed or weak, stop, sit down and have a drink of water or an electrolyte filled beverage
