How to Play Mad Libs Jr
For educational fun at half the price of a movie, have kids try the word game Mad Libs Junior. An easier version of the regular Mad Libs, this provides lists to help children find a word to fill in the blanks. This way they have guidance for their writing and spelling. It also gives practice in reading, since they have to understand the story in order to complete it. This makes for a nice after school activity.

How to Play Mad Libs Jr
-
1
Choose a page and see a titled story. The print is large, so this makes it easier for beginning readers. On the page above the story, you will see four clearly printed lists of words, each with a simple icon (such as a smiley face) above it. This divides the words into nouns (people, places, things), verbs (action words), adjectives (describing words) and miscellaneous words without actually using these terms for the parts of speech.

2
Notice that each blank features an icon underneath it. The child can simply fill in each blank with a words from the list that features that same icon. They can read the story as they go; that's okay. This version of Mad Libs keeps it simple.

Let the child read silently or quietly, and as he does so, he may choose a word and print it to complete the sentences. Encourage silly, funny words. (Help with the reading or even the printing if necessary.) This makes the whole thing more fun and encourages them to read aloud, another educational aspect of this game.

When done, listen as the child reads the story aloud. Laugh and laugh. Enjoy the craziness as she expands her vocabulary and literacy.

Tips & Warnings
The child should, technically, only use each word one time.
The workbooks are based on a theme such as "school", which contains potentially funny articles on different elements of school: Pet Day, School Bus Rules, etc.
