How to Create a T Bird Costume

T-Bird is the word at your next "Grease"-themed costume party. These greasers were the gang of boys in the film who all dressed alike in their T-Bird jackets. This costume is easy to wear, construct and recognize. Men and boys will be dancing the night away at to "Greased Lightning" in this simple costume.

Things You'll Need

  • Black faux leather jacket
  • White fabric paint
  • Sponge paint brush
  • White, round neck T-shirt
  • Dark denim or black jeans
  • Black comb
  • White athletic tube socks
  • Black Converse Chuck Taylor high tops
  • Styling gel
  • Men's '50s wig (optional)
  • Lay the black faux leather jacket on your work surface with the back facing up. You can use a denim or canvas jacket, but the leather look is more authentic. Paint a large white "T" with quotation marks around it on the back of the jacket under the left shoulder. Under the "T," paint the word "BIRDS" in all capital letters. To the right of the "T," paint the silhouette of a bird flying. Let the paint dry overnight.

  • Wear a plain white, round-neck T-shirt under the jacket. Roll the sleeves of the shirt up two times each.

  • Dress in a pair of dark denim or black jeans with the cuffs rolled up two times. Stick a black comb in the right back pocket of the jeans. Have some of the comb visible from the top of the pocket.

  • Wear a pair of white athletic socks and a pair of black Converse Chuck Taylor high top sneakers.

  • Style your hair similar to a pompadour with styling gel. Apply the gel to wet hair. Slick your hair back and push the middle section forward. Spray with hairspray and let dry. Alternatively, you can wear a men's '50s-style wig.
