Youth hostels allow one to travel without spending a lot of money on a hotel room. They are great places to meet people from all over the world. Most hostels are clean, well organized and offer a myriad of activities.

  • Hostel membership (you can usually join at the front desk while signing in)
  1. Step 1

    Stay at a hostel and save money and have a wonderful experience too. Hostels are found in many cities and offer an inexpensive place to stay.

  2. Step 2

    Make new friends at the hostel. Hostels are full of international travelers. You will meet people from all over the world. There are many common rooms in hostel such as the TV room, the lounge, and the breakfast area so it is easy to meet people. You will have new friends to share activities with.

  3. Step 3

    Participate in the activities the hostel offers. Many hostels offer walking tours, van tours to local attractions, yoga classes, movies, group dinners, seminars and many other activities.

  4. Step 4

    Save money on food by cooking in the communal kitchen. Eating every meal out while traveling gets very tedious. Hostels give you a place to store and cook food. The communal dining rooms are full of interesting conversations.

  5. Step 5

    Pick the hostel experience you want. Hostels offer private rooms or rooms with two or more bunks. The bathrooms are typically down the hall and are usually very clean and offer lots of hot water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring storage containers for food you will store in the refrigerator.
  • Bring flip flops to wear in the shower.
  • Bring a book to donate to the share library many hostels have.
  • If you have noisy room mates ask for a room change.
  • Lock up your passport and wallet in the lockers provided in each room. The front desk may also have a safe for valuables.
