Step 1
Approach the date with a positive attitude and without any expectations. Don't worry about what your date might look or act like. He may not be the date of your dreams, but you should still honor your commitment and go through with the date regardless. Even if you don't feel any immediate chemistry, give him a chance to prove himself. If you go in with a positive attitude and cheerful disposition, you will have a good time no matter what.

Step 2
Get to know each other. Initiate a casual conversation about movies, music or popular culture. Try to find out if you have any common interests. Avoid talking about past relationships or asking too many personal questions as it might make things awkward. Also, don't talk about controversial topics such as politics or religion. Give your date your undivided attention, listen to what they have to say, and ask questions to get to know her better.

Step 3
Pick an activity that you will both enjoy. The best activities for a blind date are usually physical ones such as miniature golf or bowling. A physical activity will take the burden off of maintaining a conversation throughout the date. It will also allow time to pass by faster and make the atmosphere more fun as opposed to serious. Engaging in a fun activity together can immediately take you from having a boring date to having an exciting date. Alternatively, plan a lunch date or meet up for drinks. A drink date, in particular, involves less pressure because it can come to an end at any point. If the date is going especially well, a drink date can easily turn into a dinner date.

Step 4
Have a sense of humor. You don't have to be a comedian, but trying to lighten the mood by telling a few jokes is always a good idea. However, avoid telling sarcastic or off-color jokes because they may be interpreted as insulting or inappropriate. Sarcastic jokes are especially prone to misinterpretation, particularly if your date is not accustomed to your brand of humor. Nonetheless, a good sense of humor will come in handy if anything unusual or unexpected happens: For example, the movie you chose turned out to be a dud or you slipped while bowling. If you can laugh at yourself, it will keep the little embarrassing incidences from souring the night.

Step 5
End the night on a friendly note. Always be kind no matter how the date actually went. Being courteous at the end of the night will leave your date with a positive impression of you. Ask for a second date if you would like to see the other person again. Otherwise, thank the person and say that you had a good time and enjoyed meeting them.
