Is the pet rabbit making a mess of his cage? You can clean up after him easily with a dustpan and some cage litter. A rabbit is a great family pet, and will be a very happy pet if you have a good cage cleaning routine.
Remove rabbit, food, water, and any toys from the hutch and put them in a safe place while you clean.
Step2
Using the dustpan as a scoop, remove the dirty rabbit litter from the enclosed part of the hutch. Sometimes you can just remove the soiled parts, but at least once a week you should remove all the litter and replace it with fresh litter.
Step3
Once the litter is removed, the hutch can be sprayed down with a non-toxic, pet-friendly cleanser to get rid of some of the smell.
Step4
Refill the cage with fresh, clean litter. Depending on how much your rabbit likes to snuggle in the litter will determine how much litter you need to add to the cage. It's also a good idea to put more litter in the corner that the rabbit uses as a bathroom. You can use cedar, pine, or recycled paper litter. Many owners like the recycled paper litter because it doesn't have an odor, and some animals (especially smaller ones like mice and gerbils) may get sick from the cedar aroma.
Step5
Put the rabbit, food, water, and anything else back into the freshly cleaned cage.
Tips & Warnings
Use a type of litter that your rabbit likes. You may have to do some experimentation to find the best fit for your pet.
Find a hutch that allows access to the entire bottom of the cage so you can thoroughly clean it.
Be very careful about what type of cleanser you use to clean out the rabbit's hutch. It must be non-toxic.
Thoroughly clean the entire hutch at least once a week to make sure your rabbit stays healthy and happy.
