How to Make a Beanbag Toss Game
For a party game, a rainy day activity, or a skill-building activity, a beanbag toss always seems to captivate kids. This is a simple-to-make version that can easily be stored by sliding it under a bed—or if the finished version appeals to a child—hung up as a wall decoration. Children will enjoy assisting when you make the game.
Things You'll Need
- For the target:
- A large piece of heavy cardboard, approximately 4’ x 6’
- Note: If you can find one, an old refrigerator carton would serve this purpose.
- 3 yards 1” wide plastic tape in color of your choice
- A box cutter
- Permanent markers in a variety of colors
- For the beanbags:
- Scraps of cloth 5” x 10” (old t-shirts work well)
- Packages of dried beans
- Access to a sewing machine if possible, or needle and thread
- Scissors
Instructions
-
Make the target
-
1
Edge the cardboard with the plastic tape, folding it so that the tape appears on both sides of the target
-
2
Using the box cutter, cut 9 circles in the cardboard in a random pattern. Make 3 of the circles 10” in diameter, 3 of them 8” in diameter, and the last 3 should be 6” in diameter.
-
-
3
Tape around the inside of the circles covering both the inside and outside (this will keep the cardboard from tearing with extended use).
-
4
Using the markers, draw several multi-colored circles around each cut circle for decoration.
-
5
In black marker, write the number of points above each target circle. The largest circles are worth 10 points, the middle-sized circle are worth 15, and the smallest circles are worth 25 points.
-
6
Continue to decorate the target with markers as desired.
-
7
Prop up the target against a wall.
Make the beanbags.
-
8
Fold a 5” x 10” piece of cloth in half so you have a double 5” square.
-
9
Sew up two sides. Now you have a little bag.
-
10
Turn the bag inside out and fill loosely with dried beans.
-
11
Double stitch the top of the bag.
