The Simpsons is one of the most popular cartoon programs of all time with more than 20 years of shows under its belt. One great thing about drawing the Simpsons is that the lines are simple shapes, and they all connect to each other in one expressive, unusual form. Maybe their simplicity is why they are so popular! Here is how to draw the two main characters of the Simpsons, Homer and Marge.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Paper

    Homer

  1. Step 1

Draw Homer's eyes first because the rest of the face connects with the eyes. The eyes are two overlapping circles. The lids are two lines that go halfway down the eyes with a black dot just below them. You many want to erase the top curve of Homer's left eye for different expressions.

  2. Step 2

Draw the nose. The nose is simply the curve of the bottom of the eyes and the upper curve of his five-o'clock shadow, with a little curve at the end that is even with the curve of his eye.

  3. Step 3

Draw Homer's lip. His upper lip curves and extends farther than his eyes. His lower lip is a third the way back from the tip of the upper lip.

  4. Step 4

Draw his head. Homer's head is an upside-down "J." This is easy to remember because Homer's middle initial is "J."

  5. Step 5

Draw Homer's ear. His ear is a "G" that is even with his nose.

  6. Step 6

Finish by drawing Homer's hair. He has an "M" right above his ear and two arched lines on the back of his head.

  7. Marge

  8. Step 1

Draw Marge's eyes. They are much like Homer's, but they have no eyelids (most of the time), and they have four eyelashes per eye.

  9. Step 2

Draw her nose. It's just like Homer's, but just a bit shorter than the length of the eyes.

  10. Step 3

Draw Marge's lips. The bottom of the nose is the top line for the upper lip. It curves outward, past the eye and nose, loops around into a squashed "C" shape and comes back to touch the upper lip. The bottom lip is a line that starts at the upper lip and curves down into the neck. Draw a short dash to indicate the lip on the face, as shown in the example.

  11. Step 4

Marge's ear is even with the bottom of her nose and is basically a C-shaped indention in her hair. Her hair is a long tube that starts just above her eyelashes, continuing in one line all the way around her head.

  12. Step 5

Finish the drawing by adding teeth, a tongue and her signature pearls.

Tips & Warnings
  • The "M" and "G" in Homer's hair and ear are the initials of Simpsons' creator Matt Groening.
  • Don't draw one facial feature without looking at how it connects to the others. The Simpsons always have connecting facial features.
