If you are running XP, then you need to have an anti-virus program installed. This will ensure that when a virus does show up, that you will not be infected.
Step2
When you first get a chance you will need to set up a system restore point, in case your computer does start acting up. This can be done through start menu, all programs, and system tools.
Step3
This step is very important. You need to run your system defragmentation at least once a week. This is what I recommend to all my clients. Also you will need to run your anti-virus software at least once a week as well.
Tips & Warnings
The above steps will keep your system running in top shape, I recommend that you keep your computer on all night for one night, so that you can run your porgrams all night.
