Lateral flexion exercises can help build the muscles found at the base of your neck. By working these muscles, you will be able to improve your posture and increase muscle size. Using a 4-way neck machine is the best way to get the results you want.

  • 4-way neck machine

    How to Do Lateral Flexion Exercises on a 4-Way Neck Machine

  1. Step 1

    Adjust the weight on the 4-way neck machine so you are able to work the muscles without straining them. Keep in mind that you should complete this exercise slowly and increase weight gradually to prevent injury.

  2. Step 2

    Sit on the 4-way neck machine. Make any adjustments to your body or to the machine.

  3. Step 3

    Adjust the head rest so you can move your head from side to side.

  4. Step 4

    Place your head on the head rest and lower your head toward your shoulder. Slowly raise your head to the starting position. Repeat 10-15 times.

  5. Step 5

    Switch the head rest to the other side of your face. Repeat the same exercise 10-15 times.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to increase movement and work other muscles in your neck, try bilateral exercises where you move from side to side and front to back.
  • Practice caution when performing this and other exercises that involve neck movement.
