A clogged drain is one household problem that usually needs your immediate attention, especially if it is in the kitchen sink or the shower you use each day. Most of the store bought cleaners are very harsh on your pipes (and your skin too!) and they cost a small fortune for just a small bottle! The following article will you give you an easy recipe for a homemade drain cleaner that is cheap and non-toxic.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • vinegar, baking soda

Making drain cleaner with household items

Step1
Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the clogged drain.
Step2
Immediately pour 1 cup of vinegar into the drain. Make sure you do this right after you dump the baking soda in so that the standing water won't weaken the cleaning action.
Step3
Pour hot or boiling water down the drain. Wait until the vinegar & baking soda mixture stops fizzing before you add the water.
Step4
Flush with cold water a few minutes after the hot water.
Step5
Repeat the steps if the drain clog is slow to repond.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't wait too long to add the vinegar or the water will lessen the effects of the cleaning mixture
