Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Determination
- An iron will
-
Step 1
Establish that there are certain rules of your home that you want your guests to respect. For example, tell them that they should ask for something they need, rather than go snooping around your house in search of it. Perhaps you prefer that they not carry food into the bedroom or touch your computer without permission. Setting parameters as soon as your guests arrive may make them more mindful of the way they conduct themselves during their stay with you.
-
Step 2
Avoid getting into arguments with your guests. Some people simply enjoy creating drama, but that doesn't mean you have to become a part of it. Never respond tosuch provocation by raising your voice; tell your guests that you are willing to hear them out, but only after they have calmed down. Refusing to indulge them by arguing with them will generally defuse the situation.
-
Step 3
Plan as many activities as possible that take place away from your house, such as going to the park for a picnic or visiting a museum. The less time your guests spend inside your home, the less apt they are to abuse the privilege.
-
Step 4
Delegate some responsibilities to your guests. For example, you can ask them to take out the garbage, dry the dishes or help with other tasks. This will either make them feel extremely useful or prompt their departure.
-
Step 5
Be honest : Tell your houseguests when you dislike something they have done. While you may be able to overlook minor offenses, continual disregard for your home should not be endured.
-
Step 6
If things get too out of hand, simply ask your houseguests to leave. In the most extreme cases, you may have to do this, in order to preserve your sanity and rid your home of toxic visitors.
