A candy dispenser is a great gift for mom or dad. Especially when it is filled with their favorite candy. Modeled after old fashined gum ball dispensers, the candy dispenser is fully operational and will hold most kinds of candy as long as they are not bigger than the dispenser hole. Here's how to make a candy dispenser.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Candy Dispenser must be assembled using two 4" x 4", 3/4" thick wood blocks, one 3 1/2" x 3 1/2, 1" x 1/2" wood blocks, two 11/2" x 3/16" diameter dowel rods, one 8" x 1 1/8" wood block Router with indicated size bitDrill press with appropriate bitsRadial arm sawBelt sanderSafety glassesFace shieldMachine operation and safety manualsAdult supervision for minorsScrew driverhand drill (optional)Small wood screwsFinish nailsWood gluePint canning jar with lidLarge wood clamps

Candy Dispenser assembly instructions

Step1
Candy Dispenser must be assembled using two 4" x 4", 3/4" thick wood blocks, one 3 1/2" x 3 1/2, 1" x 1/2" wood blocks, two 11/2" x 3/16" diameter dowel rods, one 8" x 1 1/8" wood block and one 1 pint canning jar with lid.
Step2
1) 3 12" x 3 1/2" wood block should be cut to size using a radial arm saw.2) 4" x 4" blocks should be sanded with belt sander and edges routed with 5/16" router bit.3) 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" block must have center routed with 5/8" bit (two passes at center point) at a depth of 3/4". 4) 8" x 1/18" block must have ends curved using belt sander and 3/16"holes drilled in each end with power drill. One end must have 3/4" hole drilled with drill press, 3" from the one end.
Step3
Optional felt piece may be applied to the bottom with wood glue. (prevents scratching of surface dispenser sits on)Wood blocks assembled using finish nails. Jar lid attached to top 4" x 4" block using small wood screws.
Step4
Top 4" x 4" block must have 1 1/4" hole drilled in center using drill press.

Tips & Warnings

  • Children under 18 should be supervised by an adult familiar with the operation of the machines used in this projectSafety instruction and testing should be done with minors to ensure competancy with machine uses.Safety glasses should be worn throughout the building process.Face shield should be used while running the drill press and router.Wood clamps should be used when making the router channel to hold wood block in place.Wood clamps should be used when drilling holes with the drill press to secure the wood block in place.Hands should be positions on either side of the radial arm saw to prevent severe injury.
  • All equipment should be used according to the safety instructions for each machine.Minors should be supervised throughout the project to prevent injury.Safety glasses and face shield should be used to prevent eye damage.All machines should have emergency cut offs to disconnect power to the machining in the event of injury.Stain or varnish should not be used to prevent poisoning of candy in dispenser
