How to Hook up a Neuros Recorder 2

The Neuros Recorder 2 is a portable DVR that records on MS ProDuo memory cards, instead of using a hard drive like a regular DVR. It has limited programability and offers similar functionality to an old-fashioned VCR. That said, the recorder is tiny (it can fit into a pocket), and can record from any video source (broadcast TV signal, cable box, satellite box, DVD player). The recording may be played back on a regular telivision or on a handheld video device like the Sony PSP. Alternatively, the recording may be transferred from the memory stick to the hard drive of a computer, then transferred to other devices, such as video iPods.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Out of the Box Preperations

Step1
Visit the Nuros website and check to see if there is a firmware update available. If there is, follow the instructions to update the firmware. Also download the manual if you do not have one.
Step2
Read the manual to get a general idea of how to set it up and use the recorder.
Step3
Locate the cables that come with the recorder. There should be a power cord and two identical sets of audio/video cables. The AV cables have a single plug on one end and a triple plug on the other end. Also locate the remote control that comes with the recorder. Do not lose this remote, as it is the only way to control your recorder.
Step4
Look at the back of the recorder; note that there are three ports where cords are to be plugged in. One is labeled "DC" (for the power cord), one is labeled "AV Out" and one is labeled "AV In."
Step5
Obtain a ProDuo memory card of at least 1 gigabyte. Generally speaking, you can record two hours of programing per gig. "This number will decrease if you use the "high quality" setting (see manual).
Step6
Plug the single end of one of the AV cables into the "AV out" port on the Neuros Recorder. Plug the opposite end, with multiple plugs, into the respective red, white and yellow "video out" ports on the back of your TV.
Step7
Decide what kind of video source you wish to record from, and go to the appropriate section below.

Recording from a cable or satellite box

Step1
Plug the single-plug end of one of the AV cables into the "AV In" port on the Neuros Recorder. Plug the other end, with multiple plugs, into the respective red, white and yellow ports on the back of the cable or satellite box,
Step2
Plug the power cord into the DC port on the Neuros Recorder. Plug the other end into an electrical outlet. A green light will show on the recorder when it is connected to a power source. This light does NOT mean that the recorder is turned on.
Step3
Turn on your televison and cable/satellite box. Turn on the Neuros Recorder using the included remote control.
Step4
Press the "Input" or "AV" button on your remote until you see the Neuros GUI on your television screen.
Step5
Switch to the "Record" tab in the Neuros GUI, and you should see the signal coming from your cable/satellite box.
Step6
Press the "record" button on the Neuros remote to start recording, or to program the timer for a later program.

Recording from a DVD player

Step1
Be aware of your local laws regarding copying commercial DVDs. The Neuros recorder can copy a DVD without circumventing anti-piracy methods, since it catches the signal coming out of the DVD player rather than decoding the DVD. Many countries will allow you to make copies in this method as long as they are for your personal use, such as for viewing on a PSP or iPod. Some jurisdictions may not permit this. It is your responsibility to know the laws of the jurisdiction in which you live.
Step2
Plug the single-plug end of one of the AV cables into the "AV In" port on the Neuros Recorder. Plug the other end, with multiple plugs, into the respective red, white and yellow ports on the back of your DVD player,
Step3
Plug the power cord into the DC port on the Neuros Recorder. Plug the other end into an electrical outlet. A green light will show on the recorder when it is connected to a power source. This light does NOT mean that the recorder is turned on.
Step4
Turn on your television and DVD player. Turn on the Neuros Recorder using the included remote control.
Step5
Press the "Input" or "AV" button on your remote until you see the Neuros GUI on your television screen.
Step6
Switch to the "Record" tab in the Neuros GUI, and you should see the signal coming from your DVD player.
Step7
Set up the DVD you want to record and press the "play" button on the DVD player
Step8
Immediately press the "record" button on your Neuros remote to begin recording.

Tips & Warnings

  • Buy at least two memory cards, so you can have one in the recorder and one free to use in your PSP or computer at the same time.
