Grout becomes dirty over time due to constantly having things spilled or set on it, as well as general aging. Sometimes grout also begins to crack and break. Broken and dirty grout is unattractive and potentially hazardous. Here is how to repair broken grout.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grout
  • vVnegar
  • Water
  • Sponge
  • Towels
  • Sealant
  • Grout saw
  • Grout float
  • Popsicle stick
  1. Step 1

Mix vinegar and water together at a one-to-one ratio. Soak a sponge in the vinegar-and-water mixture. Clean the grout with the sponge.

  2. Step 2

Cut out loose, broken or cracked grout with a grout saw. Dampen the joints with water. Absorb any excess water with a towel or rag.

  3. Step 3

Mix the grout according to the directions listed on the package. Get a little bit of grout on the grout spread. Spread it across the tiles so it fills in the grout crevices. Continue to spread the grout until the grooves are filled in completely.

  4. Step 4

Smooth the grout surface with a popsicle stick. Wet the sponge and wipe off the excess grout on the tiles. Rinse the sponge and continue to wipe the surface until it is completely clean.

  5. Step 5

Allow the grout to set for a couple hours. Seal the grout with a sealant. Allow it to sit for an hour. Then wipe the tile with a dampened sponge again. That's it -- you just repaired your broken grout!
