Most newborn babies love to be swaddled. Being tightly swaddled in a blanket provides comfort because it mimics the tight feel of the womb. First time parents might have a hard time creating a good, tight swaddle. The easiest way to remember is by using a baseball diamond as a reference. That’s right; America’s National Pastime can help you swaddle your baby. By following these simple steps you can become an expert swaddler.

  • Baby blanket

    How Baseball Can Help You Swaddle a Baby

  1. Step 1
    Imagine a Baseball diamond
    Imagine a Baseball diamond

    Lay the blanket out in a diamond shape. Envision a baseball diamond with home plate at the bottom of the blanket.

  2. Step 2

    Grab the end of the blanket at second base. Pull down to the pitcher’s mound.

  3. Step 3

    Lay the baby down gently so that the fold from the top of the blanket is at the back of his neck. Place his arms down straight at his sides.

  4. Step 4

    Grab the end of the blanket at first base. Pull across towards third base.

  5. Step 5

    Hold down the blanket at third base with your left hand. Tuck the blanket from first base under the baby. Pull the third base corner snugly while tucking first base under the baby.

  6. Step 6

    Grab the home plate corner. Bring up to the pitcher’s mound. If the blanket is too long and will cover the baby’s face fold down.

  7. Step 7

    Grab the third base corner. Pull towards the pitcher’s mound. Wrap around the baby until it is snug. Tuck the edge in the top of the blanket. She is now wrapped snuggly in her swaddle. You have made a parenting home run!
